Consumer shopping habits after food safety incidents in Japan 2024
Food safety incidents at a company would affect consumers' loyalty towards brands and businesses, according to a survey conducted in May 2024 in Japan. The largest share, almost 44 percent, of respondents stated that they would refrain from repurchases while the incident lingers in their memory. 12.3 percent would not give a brand or a business a second chance after the first incident.
Food safety discussions in Japan arose amid widespread media reports of fatalities in the domestic health foods market at the end of March 2024, related to supplements containing red yeast rice (beni-koji).
