The general "JAS" mark was the best-known food safety-related certification among Japanese consumers, according to a survey conducted in May 2024. The certification, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to businesses and products that conform to the national standards for food and forestry products, was recognized by over 71 percent of respondents.
Specific JAS, referring to the variation intended for products using traditional or other distinctive processes, showed a significantly lower awareness level.
