Travel spending worldwide was estimated at 5.5 trillion U.S. dollars in 2023. That year, domestic travelers generated by far the highest expenditure, at just above four trillion U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, intraregional travel, which refers to trips abroad made within a specific region, accounted for the highest outbound travel spending worldwide, at nearly one trillion U.S. dollars. As predicted, total global travel spending, including domestic and outbound travel, was forecast to reach an estimated 8.6 trillion U.S. dollars in 2030.
