As of 2023, the European Union held around 20 regulations related to artificial intelligence (AI), of which eight were restrictive. Since 2016, the share of expansive regulations has been increasing, having risen from nonexistent in 2018 to around 60 percent of the total number of the EU AI-related regulations.
