Industrial chemical waste on-site land disposals in the U.S. 2013-2022, by method
Approximately 2.1 billion pounds of TRI-listed chemical waste were disposed of to land on-site in the United States in 2022. Of this quantity, 14 percent were disposed of at landfill sites, while 43 percent were released through other land disposal practices like spills and leaks. Some of the chemicals disposed of to land on site in the greatest quantities include lead, zinc, and arsenic. These are primarily released by the metal mining sector. The majority of TRI-listed chemical waste disposed in the U.S. is disposed of to on-site land.
