French opinion on a motion of censure against the 49.3 article in March 2023

At the beginning of 2023, France went through a series of demonstrations against the pension reform of Elisabeth Borne's government. In March 2023, to pass this new reform, the Prime Minister announced that she would make use of the 49.3 article of the Constitution. This article allows the Prime Minister to engage the government's responsibility and adopt a reform without facing the Parliament's vote. After the use of this article, the Parliament can decide to vote on a motion of censure, which would force the government to resign. According to a survey conducted right after the Prime Minister made her announcement, 71 percent of French respondents wanted the motion of censure to be voted by the Parliament and for the government to resign.
