Brazil accounted for the largest share of global forest-related gross emissions between 2001 and 2023, with 18.2 percent. Indonesia followed, with a share of 10.6 percent of average annual gross emissions during this period. The dominant drivers of tree cover loss emissions are commodity-driven deforestation, shifting agriculture, and forestry.
