Brazil had the highest average annual forest-related emissions worldwide between 2001 and 2023, at 1.64 billion metric tones of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) per year. Canada and Indonesia followed, with each emitting an average of 0.96 GtCO₂e per year during this same period.
