Voluntary carbon market (VCM) credit issuances fell by roughly 10 percent in 2023, to 261 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Renewable energy and nature-based avoidance efforts accounted for the largest share of VCM credit issuances in 2023.
