U.S. share of adults who think Trump received a fair hush money trial 2024

On May 30, Donald Trump was convicted on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records that could have compromised his 2016 presidential campaign. While some consider the conviction as evidence of a functioning criminal justice system, others view it as a political tactic and believe the trial was rigged against Trump. As of May 31, less than half of surveyed Americans believed Trump received a fair trial. 

While his conviction may thwart his reelection efforts, he remains eligible to run and be elected. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11, 2024. However, following his sentence, he will most likely appeal the verdict, which could prolong the process well into the new presidential term. The Manhattan case was the first of four criminal trials the former president is set to face.
