Hydrogen and natural gas price comparison in Europe and the United States 2024
As of 2024, hydrogen costs may be up to 25 times as high as natural gas prices. In the United States, where natural gas is in ready supply, natural gas prices average around eight U.S. dollars per megawatt hour. Grey hydrogen costs are estimated at some 87 U.S. dollars per megawatt hour, also considering potential carbon emission tax. Meanwhile, the high estimate for green hydrogen production costs alone is set at some 200 U.S. dollars per megawatt hour.
