South Africa: registered voters living abroad 2024

As of May 5, 2024, the majority of South African citizens registered to vote from abroad were based in the city of London (United Kingdom), with over 24 thousand. The Hague (the Netherlands) followed, with a total of close to seven thousand South African registered voters. The United Arab Emirates had a combined total of 5,091 electors, with two voting stations based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Data includes the 20 main voting stations worldwide. In total, 78,092 South Africans registered to vote in the South African national elections from abroad.

Voting abroad is considered to be a special vote. South Africans abroad can only partake in the national elections and must vote at their chosen voting station on May 18, 2024. They cannot vote in the regional elections for the National Assembly, the provincial elections or the municipal elections. Voters are required to present a valid South African ID book or a smart card ID, or a valid temporary identity certificate.
