Opinions on stricter sanctions on benefits Germany

The German Bundestag and Bundesrat decided to replace Hartz IV with a so-called "Bürgergeld" or citizen's benefit in 2023. Among other things, it was intended to have lesser punishment for those who did not comply with the regulations and requirements. The Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) particularly criticized this. An agreement between parties was reaching that stipulated that sanctions for misconduct should be possible from day one. 74 percent of respondents in Germany stated that they considered the agreement on stricter sanctions for the citizen's benefit to be a good thing. Among the surveyed Grüne supporters, the share of support was 55 percent, and 92 percent among the surveyed CDU/CSU supporters.
