The total global production of silicon amounted to some 4.31 million metric tons in 2022. Ferrosilicon, which is an alloy of iron and silicon, had a global production volume of over eight million metric tons at that time. Polysilicon, which is a highly pure and polycrystalline form of silicon, witnessed the smallest production volume among the types of silicon that year, at less than one million metric tons.
