Preferred categories purchased online in India 2024

According to a survey in 2024 on online shopping behavior among Indians, 29% of respondents among urban residents preferred to buy groceries online, followed by electronics and fashion items. Meanwhile, respondents from the rest of India were ahead of urban dwellers when it came to purchasing sports and fitness, home and kitchen, and health and wellness products online.

Urban dwellers comprised of the metro (population over 50 lakhs) and Tier 1 cities (population between 10–50 lakhs), which include Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Surat, Nashik, Nagpur, Bhopal, Allahabad, Jaipur, Madurai, Mysore, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Chandigarh.

Rest of India comprised of Tier 2/3/4 cities, which include Aizawl, Sangli, Solapur, Jhansi, Ferozabad, Nellore, Kasaragod, Siliguri, Sagar, Darjeeling, Hingoli, Nagda, Bhatinda, Sohna, Thiruvallur, Idukki, Sahibganj.

One Indian rupee is equal to 0.011 euros and 0.012 dollars (as of April 2024).
