In 2022, electronic money institutions within member countries of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU) counted roughly 46.5 million active e-money accounts. This increased from some 32.5 million accounts in the previous year. Côte d'Ivoire had the highest number of e-money issuing institutions in West Africa as of 2024.
