Number of crimes in Venice by type of felony 2022

In 2022, 37,041 crimes were reported by police forces to the judicial authorities in Venice, of which around 50 percent constituted by thefts. In particular, pickpocketing currently constitutes the major problem for the city, as in 2022 5,334 cases were reported, more than any other single felony, probably given the enormous number of tourists that every year visit the Venetian lagoon. Swindles represented another 23 percent of the total reported crimes and the second most frequent felony, followed by damages, accounting for 17 percent of the total.
