Nitrogen oxide emissions in India 1990-2022
Emissions of Nitrogen oxides (NOx) in India increased by roughly three percent in 2022, to 9.4 million metric tons. Since 1990, India's annual NOx emissions have almost tripled.
NOx refers to a group of highly reactive gases that includes nitrogen dioxide (NO₂). They are commonly formed when fossil fuels are combusted in sources like road transportation and power plants. They are harmful air pollutants that can damage the human respiratory system.
