In 2023, Faridabad recorded 85 percent of monitored days when PM10 levels exceeded India's National Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of 100 micrograms per cubic meter of air (μg/m3). This was the highest percent of PM10 daily exceedances among India's most populated cities that year. In comparison, just 12 percent of monitored days exceeded PM10 NAAQS in Chennai in 2023. However, India's daily NAAQS for PM10 is less strict than the World Health Organization air quality guideline for daily PM10 levels (45 μg/m3).
PM10 is suspended coarse particulate matter with a diameter of 10 micrometers or less. It is linked to a variety of health issues, including respiratory diseases and cancer.
