As of 2022, Suncor Energy was Canada's biggest ever greenhouse gas (GHG) polluter, having emitted a total of three billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) throughout its history. Combined, these six Canadian fossil fuel producers have released almost 10 GtCO₂e into the atmosphere. In 2022, Canada's biggest GHG emitter was the Kearl Oil Sands Project in Alberta.
