Chevron is estimated to be the biggest greenhouse gas emitter in U.S. history, having produced almost 58 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) between 1854 and 2022. ExxonMobil followed closely, with approximately 55 GtCO₂e emitted during the same time frame.
