The refining sector accounts for the greatest hydrogen demand of any industry worldwide. In 2022, this sector had a hydrogen demand of around 42 million metric tons. Considering the 2050 net zero emissions target, hydrogen demand needs to grow to more than 150 million metric tons by 2030, with the greatest demand growth to come from sectors where hydrogen is not yet widely used.
