According to a survey conducted in 2022, 35 percent of global respondents felt that social media was bad for democracy in their country. However, 57 percent said they felt social media was a good thing for democracy in their country. Respondents in Singapore were most likely to say that social media was good for democracy, with 76 percent of those asked agreeing to the statement. Social media was seen as a negative thing for democracy by 64 percent of people in the United States.

From March 21 to 27, 2022, 3,581 U.S. adults in the United States were surveyed.
The report draws on nationally representative surveys of 20,944 adults from February 14 to June 3, 2022, for non-U.S. data.
