Men in their thirties spent the highest amount on beauty services and products in Japan, according to a survey conducted in August 2023. While respondents aged 30 to 39 years spent, on average, over 4.5 thousand Japanese yen per month on beauty, older respondents in their sixties had a third of the expenditure in comparison.

Original question: "Please tell us the monthly amount you spend on beauty (salon visits and cosmetics purchases)."
Figures are based on a survey question with a single-choice format, in which price ranges were given. Average expenditure was calculated by using the median value of the choices. The calculation included respondents who did not spend any money on beauty.
