As of March 2024, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan recorded the highest number of isolates of Group A streptococcus from STSS patients in Chiba Prefecture, with ten cases. Saitama Prefecture followed closely with nine cases. In total, there were 92 cases reported.
