In 2022, Milan had the largest bike-sharing fleet in Italy. That year, there were around 17,900 shared bikes available to users, 70 percent of this fleet were bikes in free-floating sharing schemes. Rome, with the second-largest fleet, had 10,000 bikes available, of which all were free-floating.

Excludes touristic services and bike-sharing services with a fleet smaller than 80 vehicles.
In station-based bike-sharing schemes, hired bikes have to be returned to the station from which they were picked up or dropped off at another designated hire station.
In free-floating bike-sharing schemes, bicycles do not need to be returned to the same location where they were picked up but can be dropped off anywhere within a usually pre-determined geographic area.Â
