In 2022, Milan had the largest number of bike-sharing schemes in operation in Italy. Four of its five schemes were free-floating bike-sharing schemes, with the remaining one being a station-based scheme. Meanwhile, Parma, Rome and Turin each had three operational schemes, which were largely free-floating schemes.

Excludes touristic services and bike-sharing services with a fleet smaller than 80 vehicles.
In station-based bike-sharing schemes, hired bikes have to be returned to the station from which they were picked up or dropped off at another designated hire station.
In free-floating bike-sharing schemes, bicycles do not need to be returned to the same location where they were picked up but can be dropped off anywhere within a usually pre-determined geographic area.
