Most of the new and used car dealerships which sold over 1,001 vehicles per month in the United States had electric vehicles on offer. In contrast, smaller dealerships were not as likely to sell electric vehicles. In particular, under one in 10 used car dealers selling between 10 and 50 vehicles per month sold EVs. This is in part due to the still emerging nature of the used EV market.

The source analyzed the inventories of 82,000 new and used car dealers in November 2023, excluding low-volume dealers and Tesla direct sales (showrooms/online sales). The proportion of dealers offering electric vehicles and their market shares were calculated for both new and used electric vehicles (excluding new Teslas) in each state and the top 50 metro areas.
