Global mining-related forest loss was mostly attributed to gold and coal, with over 71 percent of mining-related deforestation being credited to either of these commodities. 2012 was the year with the biggest forest loss occurred by mining activities with approximately 197 square kilometers affected by gold, 404 by coal and 487 by other commodities.
