After releasing in 2022, the Temu app has received millions of downloads. In the United States, Temu has become the most popular shopping app, peaking in downloads in June 2023 at 13.9 million. In February 2025, the app was downloaded 2.7 million times in the country.
Here to stay
Despite its relative newness, Temu has since skyrocketed into the spotlight of popularity not just in the United States, but around the world. In 2023, Temu’s shopping app was the most downloaded shopping app globally, beating out huge competitors like Shein and Amazon. Concurrently, the app also shot to the top of the rankings in a number of markets including Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
Pinduoduo
Temu is a subsidiary of internet company Pinduoduo Holdings, or PDD Holdings, which also owns the popular Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo. Pinduoduo held a total of over 348 billion yuan in assets in 2023. In the same year, Pinduoduo was also the leading retail e-commerce brand in the China based on brand value.
