In January 2023, an important movement of protests against the pension reform carried out by Emmanuel Macron's government started in France. The protests became more violent following March 16, when Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne decided to make use of the 49.3 article of the Constitution, allowing to engage the government's responsibility and adopt the reform without facing the Parliament's vote. As a result, in late April 2023, the City of Paris evaluated the cost of damage committed during the protests since January. The French capital estimated more than 500,000 euros dedicated to cleaning expenses and more than 800,000 euros dedicated to newspaper kiosks and billboards that got damaged or destroyed during the protests.
