Kilometers cycled on free-floating shared bikes in Italy nearly tripled between 2021 and 2022. This came alongside a substantial increase in the number of free-floating bikes available on Italian streets.
In free-floating bike-sharing schemes, bicycles do not need to be returned to the same location where they were picked up but can be dropped off anywhere within a usually pre-determined geographic area.
