Direct debit was the most commonly used method to pay taxes and pension premiums in Japan, according to a survey conducted from February to March 2024. Almost 38 percent of respondents made tax and pension contribution payments using direct debit. Around 6.7 percent reported using mobile payment apps.

The source used a stratified two-stage random sampling method.
