The source defines Instant Payment Systems (IPS) as that which allow digital push payments through set procedures, making final funds available to the payee in the nearest real-time.
It also defines cross-domain instant payment system as that which provides access for banks and non-banks and which supports transactions made from both bank and mobile money accounts.
The listed regions comprise the following countries:
East Africa: Burundi, the Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, the Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
ECOWAS (West Africa): Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.
Central Africa: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
