Support for abortion exceptions U.S. 2024, by restriction level

As of March 2024, among U.S. adults who believed that abortion should always be restricted, 61 percent favored an exception to abortion restrictions in cases where the person’s life was endangered. In general, Americans who believed that abortions should always be restricted regardless of duration of pregnancy, were less likely to favor exceptions to the restrictions in selected circumstances.

Survey respondents who favor abortion restrictions were divided into 3 categories:
1) Americans who believe that abortion should be allowed before 16 weeks of pregnancy
2) Americans in favor of restricting abortion at some point between the first week and the 15th week of pregnancy
3) Americans in favor of restricting abortion at all times during the pregnancy
