In the first quarter of 2023, most public transport use in Australia took place by train, with 42.5 percent of public transport users making use of rail services. By comparison, 35.9 percent used bus services, and 19.6 percent used trams. In the same quarter, 54.6 percent of Australians in total used public transport.
