In 2021, psychological complaints were most prevalent among women in the Netherlands, particularly in the younger age group from 12 to 24 years old. Within these age group, approximately twice as many women reported experiencing such complaints compared to men within the same age range. Psychological health was determined based on answers to five questions from the Mental Health Inventory-5 (MHI-5). The questions are about someone’s state of mind, such as experiencing dejected or gloomy feelings, feeling calm or peaceful, happy, nervous or down.Â
