Load shedding is controlled power cuts for a set period of time due to not having enough power capacity to fulfil demand. This aims to reduce the load on the power grid to avoid a total blackout.

Stage 1:1000 MW is shed nationally. Occurs three times over four days for two hours or three times over eight days for four hours.

Stage 2: 2000 MW to be shed nationally. Occurs six times over four days for two hours or six times over eight days for four hours.

Stage 3: 3000 MW to be shed nationally. Occurs nine times over four days for two hours or nine times over eight days for four hours.

Stage 4: 4000 MW to be shed nationally. Occurs 12 times over four days for two hours or 12 times over eight days for four hours.

Stage 5: 5000 MW to be shed nationally. Occurs nine times for two hours and three times for four hours over four days.

Stage 6: 6000 MW to be shed nationally. Occurs six times for two hours and six times for four hours over four days.
