According to a survey conducted in October 2023, close to 25 percent of employed persons in Japan had ever done telework in their current job. The share of respondents who have worked remotely before was the highest in the Greater Tokyo Area at 38.1 percent.

Telework is defined as working at a location different from the usual place of work using ICT.

Excluding self-employed respondents.

Tokyo Metropolitan Area: Tokyo Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Kanagawa Prefecture

Kinki Area: Kyoto Prefecture, Osaka Prefecture, Hyogo Prefecture, Kanagawa Prefecture

Chukyo Area: Aichi Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, Mie Prefecture

Other regions: all other prefectures not included in the regions above.
