Forest-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Indonesia averaged 965 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) per year between 2001 and 2022. Meanwhile, forests removed 622 MtCO₂e per year on average during this same time frame, representing net emissions of 342 MtCO₂e per year. The main driver of forest-related GHG emissions in Indonesia is deforestation for commodities such as palm oil, cocoa, and coffee. In 2022, Indonesia recorded the fourth-largest area of primary tropical forest loss worldwide.
