In 2022, the autonomous Spanish communities of Catalonia and the Community of Madrid had reported the highest number of known cybercrime cases, each with over 63,000 occurrences. Although the Basque country ranked seventh in terms of known cases, it had the highest number of cybercrime suspects and arrests of all the Spanish autonomous regions. This indicates that cybercrime is a growing concern for Spanish authorities, as these types of crimes currently account for over 16 percent of all felonies committed in the country.
