In a survey conducted in 2022, 84 percent of respondents in the United Arab Emirates said social media was their preferred source for online news consumption. Likewise, the majority of respondents in Egypt, and Saudi Arabia said that they preferred social media for online news consumption at 81 and 78 percent, respectively. The second most popular source for news online amongst the three countries was Google search.
