Wildfires in India generated 175 thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (ktCO₂e) in 2022. This was an increase of 31.6 percent from the previous year. In 2022, more than 380 hectares of tree cover were lost in India due to wildfires. Between 2001 and 2022, the highest GHG emissions attributable to wildfires occurred in 2017, at nearly 195 ktCO₂e.
