India's production of selenite has dropped significantly lately. In the financial year 2023, India produced an estimated 328 metric tons worth of selenite. This represented a decrease of nearly 90 percent in comparison to the production high recorded in 2019. The country's production value of selenite has also fallen accordingly.
Selenite – together with satin spar, desert rose, and gypsum flower – is a crystal variety of the mineral gypsum. Despite its name, it contains no significant amount of the element selenium.
