The number of marriages in Bologna decreased by eleven percent from 2010 to 2021. The celebrations have remained steadily between 900 and 1,000 per year within 2010 and 2019. The COVID-19 outbreak had a significant impact, since only 652 couples decided to marry in 2020, 30 percent less than in the previous year. In 2021, the number of marriages increased to 800, but still far from the pre-pandemic levels.
