A survey in 2024 found that, nearly half of nurses said having guaranteed days off would definitely keep them in their job. Similarly, nearly half of nurses also mentioned paying less taxes would definitely keep them in their job. Nevertheless, for all retention solutions, roughly one in ten nurses said these incentives (or changes) would not keep them in their job.

Nurses from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland were randomly selected to participate in this research by direct e-mail invitation.
Nurses from Quebec and the Territories were encouraged to participate in this research by their local organizations and via CFNU social media posts.
The survey consisted of 107 questions, and the average time to complete the survey was 16 minutes.
