A survey in 2024 found that, seven in ten nurses in Canada reported, lack of staff and high workloads were very important reasons when considering leaving their job. Lack of work-life balance was also a very important factor for wanting to quit among the majority of nurses.
Share of nurses in Canada who stated select factors were very important when considering quitting their job in 2024
Nurses from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland were randomly selected to participate in this research by direct e-mail invitation.
Nurses from Quebec and the Territories were encouraged to participate in this research by their local organizations and via CFNU social media posts.
The survey consisted of 107 questions, and the average time to complete the survey was 16 minutes.
