China saw the largest annual growth in emissions from oil combustion in 2023, with an increase of 116 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂). International bunkers followed, with emissions from aviation and maritime oil consumption increasing by 83 MtCO₂. Overall, global oil emissions in 2023 grew by 95 MtCO₂ year-on-year.
