Accounting for more than 12 percent of global imports, the United States was the leading importer of plastics and rubber worldwide in 2022. This was followed by China, at about 8.32 percent, and then Germany, with some 6.94 percent of total shipments. Meanwhile, the world's largest exporter of plastics and rubber that year was China.
