The number of non-Italian citizens residing in Venice continuously grew over the last 20 years, from 5,600 in 2000 to 40,700 inhabitants in 2023. Only between 2012 and 2014, there was no increment; in fact, the city's foreign population slightly decreased, with a steady recovery since 2015.
